Parental Conflict
The process of divorce by its nature inflames the wounds of a relationship and puts a separating couple in a high emotional state. Therapy offers them a place to address their feelings and in a manner that is separate from the legal proceedings.
Adjustment to Separation, Divorce, or Loss of a Parent
Children experiencing a divorce often struggle to adapt the parents’ separation and end of the marriage. Their behavior changes and they respond in unhealthy ways including acting out, feeling alienated or experiencing mood swings. Therapy helps children to adapt to changes in positive and emotionally healthy ways.
Parenting Skills & Coaching
I work with parents to improve their skills in areas where they lack confidence. Together we develop their strengths to create a comfortable parenting style that gives them the skills and tools to raise emotionally resilient and healthy children. |
Multiracial and Ethnic Identity Development
Families adopting outside of their racial or ethnic groups can find it difficult to talk to their children about racism and bias. I help parents communicate and support their children in dealing with conflict as it arises—while helping the children develop an identity that embraces their family and encompasses their heritage.
Collaborative Process
Divorce Coaching is part of the collaborative divorce process works differently than therapy. It is a structured practice that focuses directly on enhancing communica- tions skills during the divorce negotiation session, rather than treatment of symptoms or cause of emotional distress.
As a Child Specialist, I work directly with the children to give them a voice in the divorce process, so that the children’s expressed concerns and needs are taken into consideration. |
